State Rep. William F. Adolph Jr. (R-Delaware) today issued the following statement in response to the General Assembly’s adoption of the 2010-11 state budget. The budget, House Bill 2279, passed the House by a vote of 117-84. Adolph, who serves as Republican Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, was among those who voted for the plan:

During a press conference with the Pennsylvania Association of REALTORS today in the state Capitol, Rep. Sue Helm (R-Susquehanna Township) joined in opposition to the governor’s budget proposal that would reduce the state’s sales tax from 6 percent to 4 percent and expand it to 74 items that are currently exempt. As proposed, the sales tax would be charged on items related to real estate transactions.

The state House today approved Governor Rendell’s $29 billion budget proposal for the 2010-11 fiscal year (HB 2279) by a vote of 107-89 despite pressing concerns from Rep. William F. Adolph Jr. (R-Delaware). Reiterating the same points of contention he expressed the day the budget was introduced – excessive spending, unreliable revenues and future financial challenges – Adolph voted against the plan and again called for fiscal responsibility in the coming year’s budget.

A 2010-11 budget proposal passed by the state House Tuesday increases state spending by more than $1 billion despite continued declines in state revenues, Rep. Martin Causer (R-Turtlepoint) said today. Causer was among 89 members who opposed the measure.
